The
greatest thing anyone can do for God and man is to pray.
It is not the only thing, but it is the chief thing.
S. D. Gordon
Love
your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you, that you
may be the sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun
to rise on the evil and hte good, and sends the rain on the
rightous and unrighteous... Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly
Father is perfect.

Prayer
Builds Relationships
It
doesn't follow that having achieved a life of great success, leads
us to have great relationships. However, those who have
created great relationships, have created great successes.
The
Greatest Souls in our history have all created phenomenal relationships
with the people closest to them. They also have indirectly built
great relationships with humanity.
They
inspire us. They lead the world towards the realization
of heaven on earth. We know them as the most loving
people in the world, - whether it is Mother Teresa, Gandhi, Pope
John Paul, or the Dalai Lama...
And
time and time again they tell us that the secret to their capacity
for creating loving relationships has been prayer. They
have always prayer for others, and have created tremendous relations.
Why
is that?
I
urge then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercessions,
and thanksgiving, be made for everyone - for kings and all those
in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness
and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Saviour who wants
all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.
St. Paul
On
one level, praying for others affects the consciousness of the one
who prays. It
focuses our mind away from egocentricity, and onto the essence
of love. Praying for others strengthens our power to love. This
is most beneficial when you pray not just for the ones you love, but
also for the ones that have injured you in some way... Here is
where the biggest gains are made.
It
is why Jesus told his disciples to "Love your enemies, bless
them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them
that despitefully use you, and persecute you". And he demonstrated
the power this has, when praying on the cross for his enemies, -
and thus transforming the conscience for all in the world.
On
another level, praying for others may also reach and
touch them personally. Prayer shapes your attitude towards
them, and how they are impacted by your company - the choice of
words you'll make, the affection that will radiate from you.
In
your presence your enemies slowly erode the walls they have built
around their hearts. In your presence, your friends find a deeper
connection with love, with joy, with peace.
Then,
there is the mysterious power of prayer, - that influence which
reaches beyond bodies, - beyond time and space. Your
choice for charity and love, moves 'positive coincidences'
to be present in the world of another.
